Abuja, Nigeria

Tony Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holding Plc, says it is false news that he is being considered for the position of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Claim

Imran Mohammad, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had claimed that Elumelu is being considered for appointment as governor of the CBN by President Bola Tinubu.

“According to a Source President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN Governor,” Mohammad posted on X.

Verification

DailyAgent Check conducted checks on Mohammad’s claim and found a direct reply by Elumelu via his verified X handle where he denied the claim.

Although, he visited the President last week Tuesday.

The country currently has an acting CBN governor following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele by President Tinubu in June.

The CBN is being led by Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive governor for the apex bank.

The claim is completely false.
