The Insight

The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is ongoing until 26th July 2026. But here this—before you click any voter registration link, ask yourself one question: Is this really INEC’s website? A fake website can look almost exactly like the real one, but its goal is to steal your personal information, hack your WhatsApp account, and scam your family and friends.

The Problem

As Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) continues across Nigeria, cybercriminals are creating fake websites and links that imitate the official INEC portal. They often share these links through WhatsApp, Facebook, SMS, Telegram, and other social media platforms, urging people to “register now” or “avoid missing out.” Their aim is to harvest your personal data or trick you into revealing security codes. DailyAgent Check exists to help Nigerians identify and stop misinformation, fake news, and online deception through evidence-based verification.

Our Fact Check

The only official online portal for Continuous Voter Registration is: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org

Here are four simple ways to spot a fake website:

  • Check the website address carefully. It must end with inecnigeria.org. Watch out for misspellings like inecnigeroa.org, extra letters, numbers, or strange endings such as .com, .net, or .xyz, or /voter-registration.
  • Don’t trust links sent by strangers or forwarded messages without verifying them.
  • Never share your OTP, WhatsApp verification code, password, or banking details during voter registration.
  • If something feels suspicious, leave the website immediately and type the official address into your browser yourself.

What You Should Do

Register only through https://cvr.inecnigeria.org. Before entering any personal information, pause, verify the web address, and share this safety tip with your loved ones.
