Claim

Claims have been made by civil society organisations and observers groups monitoring the ongoing governorship election in Kogi state that there are incidences of pre-filled results in some polling units.

The Background

YIAGA Africa has raised the alarm about reports of pre-filled results sheets in Ogori/Magongo, Eika/Ohizenyi and some other areas of the state. 

YIAGA in a post on X, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the matter to “promptly safeguard the integrity of the process”.

Another X user, Mayor Eika another case of pre-filled results sheet was discovered in PU 020, Eika/Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of Kogi state. 

According to the posts, the results sheets were filled before the commencement of voting on Saturday.

Verification

We searched and found that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to the development in a post on X, INEC said the matter is being investigated.

Verdict

The claim is MOSTLY TRUE because INEC has acknowledged the statement and promised to provide additional clarification as soon as possible.
